2025 Berton Rahn Research Award honors the late Dr Marcel Dvorak

The AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is proud to announce that the 2025 Berton Rahn Research Award has been posthumously awarded to Dr Marcel Dvorak, recognizing his exceptional contributions to spine research and education.

Dvorak, who sadly passed away recently, was a globally respected spine surgeon and a long-standing contributor to AO Spine. His AO-funded research on thoracolumbar burst fractures has significantly influenced global treatment strategies and health economics in spine care.

The award will be presented at the upcoming ARI Orthopaedics conference, where his legacy will be honored among peers and colleagues.

The Berton Rahn Research Award, named after Prof Berton Rahn, celebrates excellence in AO-funded research and is awarded annually at the ARI Orthopaedic (formerly eCM) conference, which is taking place this summer in Davos, Switzerland. Dvorak’s work exemplifies the award’s values: scientific rigor, innovation, and mentorship.
