Dirk Nehrbass received his diploma in veterinary medicine from the Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen (Germany), in 1994, did his thesis at the department for Cytopathology at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, and thereby obtained his veterinary doctoral degree, summa cum laude, in the year 2000 (best doctoral thesis of the academic year 2000/2001). In the following years he certified for both Veterinary Pathology and Toxicopathology (FTA Pathology, Germany) and is board-eligible for the European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP). Functioning as a study pathologist at a private contract laboratory, later as the head of the pathology department of biopharmaceutical company, he works now >10 years for the AO Research Institute Davos. He has >18 years of practice under a GLP environment, providing him with a high-level of expertise in preclinical research as well as drug development. Up to now, he has compiled over 200 reports on varying study types (discovery, toxicology, investigative, tissue cross reactivity, biodistribution (ADME), efficacy, local tolerance, safety, surgical proof-of-concept) including all laboratory animal species. He is author of more than 35 scientific papers and book chapters and holds an accepted patent. In recent years, he specialized on studies about surgical products (e.g., tissue glues, implants (metal, ceramic, polymers), scaffolds) with special emphasis on the musculoskeletal system.
