AO faculty at the forefront of medical education research

Education research ensures AO programs remain effective, is a key driver of innovation, and strengthens the AO’s leadership position to keep our education innovative, relevant, and impactful. This commitment was exemplified by the extensive medical education research contributions by AO faculty members as presented at this year’s International Association for Health Professions Education (AMEE) conference in Barcelona—the largest global medical education event.
With AO faculty support, the AO Education Institute delivered 9 impactful contributions including interactive workshops, oral presentations, and poster sessions—advancing critical areas of surgical training:
Innovation and technology
- DEHST implementation in practical training
- AI-generated videos implementation in surgical education modules
- Optimizing video design for virtual learning platforms
Curriculum and competency development
- Knowledge translation in spine surgery education
- Competency-based education and research synergies
