Embark on Your Journey to Surgical Excellence with AO Milestones

AO Milestones offers an interactive digital curriculum combined with hands on skills training sessions to help residents achieve ACGME competencies.

AO Milestones

AO Milestones is a unique differentiator that addresses significant gaps in residency training today – repeated opportunities for practice, performance assessments, and feedback. In addition, the program includes state of the art technology coupled with evidence-based learning interventions and experiences.

In a world where learning is increasingly happening on-the go, and current trainees prefer just in time learning, AO Milestones offers an interactive digital curriculum combined with hands on skills training sessions to help residents achieve ACGME competencies. The first release of the AO Milestones supports residency program directors, and residents.

Adaptive learning curriculum includes the following programs:

  1. Fundamentals of Osteosynthesis & Hip recently launched in February 2023
  2. Distal Radius launching January 2024
  3. Ankle launching April 2024 and more modules to follow

Digital solutions for hands-on training

Digitally Enhanced Surgical Trainer (DEHST), our new training platform uses digital technologies to enhance the scope of training. It includes a simplified model of a C-arm [X-ray image intensifier] which generates artificial X-ray images. The DEHST modules incorporate technologies that track the training so that the surgeon receives feedback in form of performance metrics such as accuracy. DEHST allows users to interact with the training station via smartphone app on their personal phones and provides comprehensive training analytics for personalized assessment.

Productization of a zero-series: ready for testing during the AO Davos courses 2023 and part of the skill training event in March 2024.

During the AO Davos courses 2023, you are invited to test the first 3 modules live. Contact us and book your place at aomilestones@aofoundation.org.

Skills Training Event
scheduled for March 2024 will be linked to an AO Trauma Basic principles course and aims to demonstrate its significance in helping residents acquire essential skills.

It is offering different training modalities such as:

  • Virtual Reality (VR)—to train on procedural steps
  • DEHST—to train on fundamental psychomotor skills
  • Augmented Reality (AR)—for spatial understanding
