Election Announcement: Anze Kristan re-elected as AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa Regional Education Committee Chairperson

Following the elections conducted in February 2025, Anze Kristan has been re-elected as the AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Education Committee Chairperson. His second term will begin on July 1, 2025, and will run through June 30, 2028.
Anze, a highly respected general and orthopaedic trauma specialist, has been practicing for over 23 years. In addition to his clinical work as a surgeon, he is actively involved in resident education and clinical research. He currently holds the position of associate professor of surgery in the Medical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana.
Anze’s involvement with AO began during his residency, where he was immediately inspired by the spirit of AO. After completing his board exams, he became a national faculty member and, since 2008, has also served as regional and international AO faculty. From 2010 to 2018, he served as the country educational officer for Slovenia, and from 2018 to 2022, he chaired the AO Country Council in Slovenia. Additionally, Anze has participated as faculty and chairman in more than 60 AO courses at both national and regional levels.
In 2022, Anze was elected as the AO Trauma ESA regional Education Committee Chairperson. Under his leadership, the Education Committee successfully introduced “Cluster logic,” which streamlined event planning across the ESA region, making it more efficient and collaborative. Additionally, Anze and the ESA education committee worked closely with the ESA board to address a range of key issues affecting education in the region.
The election process was overseen and ratified by the AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa Nomination Committee, ensuring transparency, fairness, and compliance with the AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa Terms of Reference. The AO Trauma International Board (AO TIB) officially approved Anze’s re-election in February 2025. AO Trauma extends its congratulations to Anze and looks forward to his continued leadership in the Education Committee for the next term.
