Call for Applications: AO TESA Education Committee Chairperson
AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa is excited to announce the opening of applications for the position of AO TESA Education Committee Chairperson. The current chairperson, Anze Kristan, will conclude his term on June 30, 2025, with the possibility of an additional term. The new chairperson will begin their three-year term on July 1, 2025, running through June 30, 2028.
AO Trauma Europe and Southern Africa is looking for:
A highly motivated trauma/orthopedic surgeon who is altruistic, a true team player, and has a vision and clear understanding of how-to best lead and further develop education in Europe and Southern Africa. The candidate should have an education from a reputable institution and a background in orthopedic trauma surgery, ideally combined with an excellent understanding of medical education and strategic awareness. He/she should have a broad international experience and be able to work in multicultural environments. As a leader, he/she must possess strong and refined people skills and a dedication to sharing and encouraging ideas across professional and cultural boundaries.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a paying AO Trauma member. If you are not a member, join us by registering here.
- Have previous experience in an AO Trauma officer role (country, regional, or international).
- Be an active trauma and/or orthopaedic surgeon with leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting.
- Have a strong track record as an AO Trauma faculty member and chairperson at AO courses and symposia, with preferred exposure to the Davos Courses.
- Completion of a Faculty Education Program Course (FEP or T4T).
- A recognized member or officer in national or international trauma associations.
- The candidate must not hold any other governance positions in AO Trauma at the time of election. (candidate will be expected to resign from other governance positions if elected as Education Committee Chair).
Candidates must also be prepared to dedicate up to three days per month away from clinical practice for governance duties and spend additional time on meeting preparations and correspondence.
They must be effective communicators, able to work in multicultural teams, and willing to travel internationally.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the AO online application system by midnight on Monday, December 9, 2024. The submission includes an online form, a photo, a disclosure statement form, and confirmation of the Code of Ethics and Conduct.
Election Process
The electorate for this position is composed of AOTESA Country Council Chairpersons, with voting to occur anonymously via the AO website from January 24–31, 2025. The candidate who receives more than 50% of the votes will be elected. The result will be ratified by the Nomination Committee, and candidates will be notified of the outcome.
The successful candidate will officially begin their term as AO TESA Education Committee Chairperson on July 1, 2025, following a hand-over meeting from the current chairperson.
