Description

Adverse events can happen during surgery of the hand and upper limb. Some of these are avoidable, while others may result from unforeseen events, suboptimal execution of procedures or suboptimal rehabilitation.

Whether it is a pre-operative, intra-operative or post-operative procedure, surgeons need to know how to deal with these complications not only from a clinical perspective but also from a legal, ethical and psychological perspective.

A holistic approach, with assistance from other disciplines, colleagues and hand therapists is critical in making sure that the best possible outcome can be achieved, despite the complication.

This series will be conducted weekly on Thursdays starting on May 5, 2022 and will run through June 16, 2022.

Directly provided by AO North America.

Upon completion of this event, participants will be able to
Identify common complications after upper limb surgery involving fracture, tendon, and nerve repair or reconstruction
Evaluate each complication clinically
Understand and evaluate investigative modalities for each complication
Develop an algorithmic approach to treating each complication

Enrollment in this course is open to all orthopedic, plastic, and general surgeons as well as trainees who are actively involved in the treatment of patients with disorders of the upper limb and post traumatic reconstruction.

In addition, this course is designed to involve hand therapists who would benefit from the steps and knowledge of the surgical procedure(s) and treatment of complications. These sessions will review therapeutic nuances in the management of complications which will be discussed by surgeons and therapist faculty.
