Faculty Pathway Structure

AO Trauma NA offers a tiered pathway that recognizes experience, contribution, and leadership. Applicants can enter and advance through three tiers, each representing a milestone in professional and educational engagement. It also creates a transparent, automated system that allows for more inclusivity and opportunities for members to engage and professionally develop as a surgeon educator. 

Tier 1 – Candidate
Who it’s for:
New members or first-time applicants interested in joining the AO faculty pathway.
Requirements:
AO North America membership (required for consideration)
Completion of the AO Basic and Advanced Principles Courses
Completion of an accredited Trauma Fellowship (preferably AO NA Davos Fellows experience)
Attendance at least one OneAO Meeting prior to application
Participation in AO NA online activities
Two sponsor forms completed by senior AO faculty (provided by NAMTEC)
Submission of Tier 1 Application Form, Curriculum Vitae, and Letter of Intent
Outcome:
Eligibility for mentorship and participation in AO educational activities at the introductory level.
 
Tier 2 – Associate
Who it’s for:
Faculty members who have completed Tier 1 and demonstrated continued engagement.
Requirements:
Completion of Tier 1 status
Submission of Tier 2 Application Form
Audit of AO Basic Principles Course
Attendance at least two OneAO Meetings
Continued participation in AO NA online activities
Outcome:
Qualification to contribute to AO educational events as a teaching faculty under mentorship.
 
Tier 3 – Active Faculty
Who it’s for:
Experienced educators ready to lead sessions, mentor new faculty, and contribute to program design.
Requirements:
Completion of Tier 2 status
Submission of Tier 3 Application Form
Completion of the Faculty Education Program (FEP)
Attendance at least three OneAO Meetings
Outcome:
Recognition as AO Trauma NA Faculty with opportunities for leadership, course development, and mentorship.
