Call for Nominations: Seeking Otolaryngology Surgeon for the AO CMF North America Board

IMPORTANT & TIME-SENSITIVE

The AO CMF North America (AO CMF NA) Nominating Committee (Nom Com) is pleased to announce the Call for Nominations for an open Otolaryngology seat on the AO CMF NA Board. The elected member will serve a three-year term from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2028.

In keeping with AO CMF NA’s tradition and commitment to balanced representation among Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Otolaryngology (OTO), and Plastic Surgery, this position specifically is designated for a practicing otolaryngologist surgeon.

We are seeking nominations of qualified otolaryngologists who are passionate about craniomaxillofacial surgery, education, and leadership within the AO community. You may nominate yourself or a colleague by submitting the nominee’s name and a brief rationale to aocmfna@aona.org by Thursday, 5 June 2025.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Current AO CMF NA committee member
  • Practicing CMF surgeon who specializes in otolaryngology
  • Demonstrated commitment to AO CMF NA activities
  • Recognized interest and involvement in AO educational activities
  • Willing to commit to significant regional and international travel as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AO faculty member with experience teaching or planning content for one or more AO NA or AO Foundation courses
  • Well-published in high-quality academic journals or author/co-author of a book

Election Process:

The Nom Com, which is comprised of the AO CMF NA Board, will provide oversight of the elections. The Nom Com includes:

  • Larry Cunningham, MD, DDS – Board Chair
  • Michael Grant, MD – Community Development Committee Chair
  • Lamont Jones, MD – Research Committee Chair
  • Kerry Latham, MD – Fellowship Committee Chair
  • David Powers, MD, DMD – Education Committee Chair
  • Travis Tollefson, MD – Past Board Chair

Election Steps:

  1. The Nom Com will collect and review the nominations
  2. The Nom Com will identify eligible nominees and invite them to submit a Letter of Intent, summary of AO activities, and CV.
  3. The Nom Com present the final candidates to the voting membership (AO CMF NA faculty).
  4. The membership will have two weeks to vote; each member will receive one vote per ballot.
  5. The Nom Com will declare a winner when a candidate receives more than 50% of the votes. If none of the candidates meets this threshold, the Nom Com will conduct a runoff election until a candidate receives more than 50% of the votes.
  6. The Nom Com will share the final election results with the AO CMF membership in North America, the AO CMF International Board, and the AO NA Board of Directors.
