Call for Volunteers: AO SNA Committee Positions

Dear AO Spine NA Community,

 

AO Spine North America (AO SNA) is looking for motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal skills to serve as committee members on the Education, Fellowship, and Community Development Committees.

 

EDUCATION COMMITTEE MEMBER: 1 Vacancy

(Term: July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)

 

The Education Committee oversees the educational activities of AO SNA. The education developed and delivered is based on evidence that promotes effective learning and achievement of outcomes defined for each of its activities. The Committee is also responsible for the development of faculty and chairpersons’ knowledge and skills related to teaching, designing, developing, and delivering education.

 

The criterion for the open position is:

  • Spine surgeon in active practice

  • AO Spine Member

  • AO SNA active faculty member

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting to the AO SNA Education Committee Chair

  • Participating in at least one in-person meeting and conference calls every other month during the year 

  • Presenting and representing the interests of the AO SNA Education Committee in AO NA and vis-à-vis third parties and the public

  • Ensuring that the objectives of the AO SNA Education Committee are achieved

 

 

FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBER: 2 Vacancies
(Term: July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)

 

The Fellowship Committee is responsible for creating and maintaining programs that add value and benefits for AO SNA post-graduate surgeons. These programs incorporate live and web-based networking and educational opportunities.  Through these activities, the Committee seamlessly integrates fellows into the fabric of the AO community, nurturing bonds that endure throughout their careers.  AO SNA’s fellowship programs provide a unique opportunity to connect, learn from and develop expertise interacting with experienced leaders in spine surgery.

 

The criteria for the open positions are:

  • Spine surgeon in active practice

  • AO Spine Member

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting to the AO SNA Fellowship Committee Chair

  • Participating in two in-person meetings (Spine Fellows course, Banff Fellows Forum) per year and conference calls as needed

  • Supporting the management of the fellowship grant programs

  • Creating opportunities for fellows to stay engaged with the AO and AO NA communities post fellowship

  • Ensuring that the objectives of the AO SNA Fellowship Committee are achieved

 

 

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBER - 1 Vacancy

(Term: July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)

 

The Community Development Committee is responsible for engaging spine surgeons in North America and promoting AO Spine membership and the community. Committee members organize and lead unique initiatives and programs to appeal to members and prospective members, resulting in increased engagement and retention.  

 

The criterion for the open position is:

  • Spine surgeon in active practice

  • AO Spine Member

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting to the AO SNA Community Development Committee Chair

  • Participating in conference calls as needed

  • Creating interesting programs, products, and benefits to appeal to members and prospective members and to encourage membership to prospective members

  • Promoting continued engagement of members to retain them within the AO Spine community

  • Building partners and creating alliances with local academic societies

  • Driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives

  • Ensuring that the objectives of the AO SNA Community Development Committee are achieved

All AO SNA active members who wish to be considered for these open positions are required to submit a CV, an AO bio sketch, and a Letter of Intent to aosna@aona.org by Monday, May 19, 2025 at 9AM ET. 

 

If you are applying for multiple open committee positions, please indicate your order of preference. The selection committee for each of these open positions will make their final decision in June 2025 for a three-year term to begin on July 1, 2025.
