Call for Volunteers: AO CMF NA Committee Positions

Dear AO CMF North America Community Members,
AO CMF North America (AO CMF NA) is looking for motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal skills to serve as committee and work group members on the Education, Fellowship, and Research Committees.
The criteria for open positions are:
- active AO CMF membership and maintain good standing
- craniomaxillofacial surgeon
- AO faculty
OPEN COMMITTEE MEMBER POSITIONS
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The AO CMF NA Education Committee oversees the educational activities of AO NA. The education developed and delivered is based on evidence-based approaches that facilitate effective learning and achievement of outcomes defined for each of the activities. The Committee is also responsible for the development of faculty and chairpersons’ knowledge and skills related to teaching, designing, developing and delivering education.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the CMF Education Committee Chair
- Ensuring the adoption of ACCME guidelines and criteria in the development of all educational activities
- Measuring the effectiveness and success of the educational activities and documenting such evidence
- Monitoring funds and making necessary accommodations to ensure financial goals are met
- Leading educational innovation and change to address learner needs derived from practice trends, community needs and healthcare changes
- Ensuring that the objectives of the CMF Education Committee are achieved
The AO CMF NA Education Committee is comprised of four Work Groups for which we are seeking members:
Work Groups of the Education Committee:
CURRICULUM WORK GROUP: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Curriculum Lead
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Providing AO CMF NA curriculum and educational portfolio oversight
- Defining the slate of yearly offerings and making recommendations to the Education Committee to be presented to the Board for approval
- Reviewing course performance time and making recommendations to the Education Committee on revisions or adding or removing educational activities
- Defining content needed to support the course, the learner before, during, and after the educational activities
- Working with the online and media resources workgroup to develop and deliver these materials
- Defining the overall curriculum that engages learners throughout their careers
- Providing input into an annual needs assessment and surveys that gather feedback and input from different stakeholders
- Reviewing activity evaluation data, the overall AOCMF NA portfolio and making recommendations to the Education Committee
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Curriculum Work Group are achieved
LIVE EVENTS WORK GROUP: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Live Events Lead
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Providing oversight of the delivery of courses, based on the defined curriculum and portfolio
- Exploring effective ways to deliver the live course, learner, and faculty interactions
- Testing bone models prior to use in courses
- Reviewing lab exercises and other skills-based interactions with learners and making recommendations to the Education Committee
- Adapting backward planning to define the competencies to be accomplished for the different offerings, based on the overall curriculum
- Working closely with the Curriculum Work Group to ensure that the goals established for the courses are met
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Live Events Work Group are achieved
ONLINE LEARNING WORK GROUP: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Online Learning Lead
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Integrating online learning into the overall portfolio, based on the overall curriculum'
- Developing online learning opportunities that are stand-alone offerings, complement, or supplement in-person events
- Maintaining and implementing webinar offerings
- Reviewing evaluation data and learner feedback relevant to online learning and making recommendations to the Education Committee
- Implementing the process for selection, training, and approval for all online education
- Working closely with the Curriculum Work Group to ensure that the goals established for online learning are met
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Online Work Group are achieved
MEDIA RESOURCES: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Media Resources Lead
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Leading and managing the development of media assets that support online and in-person events
- Supporting the tagging and archiving of media assets for easy access.
- Promoting media resources as additional instructional materials and marketing materials delivered through different channels
- Leading the development of content and media assets for social media channels that can help develop community and engage learners
- Evaluating the use of the assets and making recommendations for revisions, creating new assets to address gaps and removing any that are not impactful
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Media Resources Work Group are achieved
FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBER: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
The Fellowship Committee plays a pivotal role in designing and overseeing fellowship programs aimed at advancing education and training in craniomaxillofacial surgery. The Committee evaluates applications, identifies promising candidates for fellowship opportunities, and makes recommendations accordingly.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Fellowship Committee Chair
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Representing and presenting the interests of AO CMF NA Fellowship to AO CMF Community Development Commission
- Managing fellowship partnerships
- Supporting AO CMF’s short-term fellowships by reviewing applications and making recommendations to the AO CMF NA board
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Fellowship Committee are achieved
RESEARCH COMMITTEE
Chair: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30,2028)
Member: 1 Vacancy
(Term July 1, 2025 – June 30,2028)
The Research Committee members will play a crucial role in designing and implementing research programs aimed at promoting research and development in craniomaxillofacial surgery. The Committee evaluates applications, identifies promising candidates for research funding, and provides recommendations accordingly. Additionally, it actively promotes the AO's research findings and publications to advance patient care.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to the Research Committee Chair
- Participating in conference calls and in-person meetings as needed
- Representing and presenting the interests of AO CMF NA Research to AO CMF Research Commission
- Implementing, together with council colleagues, a platform to position AO CMF as a lead in Evidence Based Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, i.e., modules within courses or seminars at congresses
- Introducing innovative programs and services to attract craniomaxillofacial researchers into AO CMF
- Ensuring that the objectives of the Research Committee are achieved

All AO CMF NA active members who wish to be considered for these open positions are required to submit a CV, a summary of contributions to AO, with dates (e.g. committee service, courses), and a Letter of Intent to aocmfna@aona.org by Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 9 AM ET.
Please indicate your level of interest for each position within your Letter of Intent. The selection committee for each of these open positions will make their final decision in June 2025 for a three-year term to begin on July 1, 2025.
