AO VET NA Blended Course—Principles of Small Animal Fracture Management
Date: April 2 – 4, 2025

The AO VET Course - Principles in Small Animal Fracture Management is designed to provide participants with a basic, fundamental knowledge of bone healing and how it can be favorably influenced through internal fixation of fractures. The scientific principles of fracture repair and their practical application to the clinical situation are presented in lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions.

AO VET NA Blended Course—Advanced Techniques in Small Animal Fracture Management with Wet Lab
Date: April 2 – 4, 2025

The AO VET NA Advanced Techniques in Small Animal Fracture Management with Wet Lab course expands upon the concepts presented in the AO VET Principles in Small Animal Fracture Management course and adds new subjects for discussion with both dry and wet lab experiences.

AO VET NA Blended Course—Advanced Techniques in Equine Fracture Management
Date: April 2 – 4, 2025

The focus of the Advanced Techniques in Equine Fracture Management course is on principles and techniques for reconstruction of complicated fractures in the horse requiring various plating applications. This course builds upon the foundation of fracture repair taught in the Equine Basic Principles course.  Lecture topics include management of complicated and long bone fractures as well as external fixation techniques.  Time for discussion and radiographic review of complicated cases will be provided.  Participants are encouraged to bring radiographs (imported into a Power Point presentation, details to follow) of problem cases to the course.  The hands-on laboratory exercises include plate fixation of radial, ulnar and metacarpal fractures as well as fetlock arthrodesis.  Faculty for both the lectures and practical labs are experts on fracture fixation and provide the most current information on techniques and management of orthopedic injuries in the equine patient. 


The new 'blended' course format includes REQUIRED online coursework and learning materials provided prior to the face-to-face event which are MANDATORY for completion and attendance at the course.
 

*The AO VET Course - Principles of Equine Fracture Management is a prerequisite for the Advanced Techniques course since familiarity with instrumentation and techniques will be assumed.

AO VET NA Blended Course—Surgical Approaches and Soft Tissue Reconstruction
Date: April 5 – 6, 2025

The focus of this 2-day course, which utilizes canine anatomic specimens, will be learning the approaches to the four main long bones and pelvis of the dog for fracture management. Pre-course modules will be used to refresh anatomic knowledge. Lectures will present principles of preparing an orthopaedic patient, hemostasis and tissue handling, fracture reduction, suture selection and closure techniques. Multiple cadaver exercises will be performed to practice the approaches and closures.

The 'blended' course format includes REQUIRED online coursework and learning materials provided prior to the face-to-face event which are Mandatory for attendance at the course.

AO VET NA Blended Course—Spotlight Series: Equine Ulna Fractures
 
Date: April 5 - April 6, 2025

This course will provide a comprehensive experience in equine ulnar fracture repair.  As a rare equine course utilizing cadaveric specimens, participants can expect unique, hands-on, tissue handling experience. Pre-course modules and onsite lectures will prepare participants for laboratory activities utilizing bone models and equine cadaveric specimens during the 2-day in person event designed to fit into the busy schedule of practicing surgeons. High impact, personalized instruction can be expected with a low participant to faculty ratio.  Radiographic capabilities will allow real time assessment of laboratory surgical constructs. Interactive case discussions will guide participants through diagnosis, surgical planning, and identification of technical errors.  Emphasis will be placed on the surgical approach and anatomic intricacies of the equine ulna and olecranon, review of surgical techniques for simple to complex fracture configurations, and management of complications.
