AO Spine announces newly elected International Board members for 2026

AO Spine is pleased to announce the election and approval of four distinguished leaders who will join the AO Spine International Board as of 1 July 2026. Representing both global and regional leadership, these individuals will help guide AO Spine’s strategic direction and continued commitment to excellence in spine care, education, and research worldwide.

The AO Spine International Board is composed of key governance leaders, including the International Chairperson, Regional Chairpersons, and Commission Chairpersons, ensuring a balanced and globally representative leadership structure. 

We recently celebrated reaching the 7,000 members milestone for AO Spine. The International Board plays a key role in designing our strategy and our future. You have an opportunity to meet AO Spine leaders and members at the Global Spine Congress in Istanbul, May 28–31, 2026.

Pedro Berjano

Incoming AO Spine International Chairperson

Pedro Berjano has been officially elected and approved as the next AO Spine International Chairperson. He will begin his Chairperson-Elect term on 1 July 2026, followed by his Chairperson term starting 1 July 2027, serving for three years until 30 June 2030.

A highly respected leader in spine surgery, Pedro brings extensive experience in clinical practice, innovation, and AO Spine leadership. His vision will help shape the future of AO Spine on a global scale, strengthening collaboration and advancing patient care worldwide.

Manabu Ito

Incoming Education Commission Chairperson

Manabu Ito has been officially elected and approved as the next AO Spine Education Commission Chairperson. He will begin his term on 1 July 2026, serving for three years until 30 June 2029.

With a strong background in education and academic leadership, Manabu is committed to advancing AO Spine’s global education portfolio, fostering knowledge exchange, and supporting the development of spine professionals across all regions.

Incoming AO Spine Latin America Chairperson

Luiz Gustavo Dal Oglio da Rocha has been officially elected and approved as the next AO Spine Latin America Chairperson. He will begin his term on 1 July 2026, serving for three years until 30 June 2029.

Luiz Gustavo brings deep regional insight and leadership experience, with a strong commitment to expanding AO Spine’s impact across Latin America and strengthening collaboration within the global community.

Daniel Sciubba

Incoming AO Spine North America Chairperson

Daniel Sciubba has been officially elected and approved as the next AO Spine North America Chairperson. He will begin his term on 1 July 2026, serving for three years until 30 June 2029.

An internationally recognized spine surgeon and leader, Daniel will guide AO Spine North America with a focus on innovation, research excellence, and member engagement.

Together, these leaders will play a key role in shaping AO Spine’s future, working alongside fellow Board members to advance the AO’s mission of improving spine care for patients worldwide.
