  • Read the quick summary
    • A free, case-based AO Spine webinar series launches, covering core spine procedures using a standardized 10-step surgical framework.
    • Aim is to reinforce indications, refine technical fundamentals, and compare decision-making with international faculty.
    • The webinars will contribute to discussion on how standardization reduces complications and where technique variations matter.

This free, four-part webinar series organized by AO Spine Europe (AO SESA) focuses on standardizing surgical indications and fundamental technical steps across common spine procedures: ACDF, TLIF, ALIF, and C1/C2 fusion. Each one-hour session is built around a real clinical case, with guided discussion on treatment decisions, step-by-step surgical technique, and complication avoidance.

“Standardizing the steps of surgical techniques and the indications for surgery will help reduce complications and outliers in patient care. This reflects the type of content you can expect in future AO Spine educational events,” said AO SESA Education Officer and course Chairperson Markus Loibl. Chairperson Susana Núñez Pereira further emphasized everyone is welcome to join and benefit from the free offer.

The first session, 10 steps to success in spine surgery—ACDF, takes place on February 24, 2026, and addresses indications such as cervical disc herniation, spondylosis, and neurologic compromise.

Faculty moderators and presenters from multiple countries lead participants through patient positioning, exposure, decompression, reconstruction, and closure, followed by a case resolution and live Q&A.

Designed for junior spine surgeons and surgeons seeking to reinforce fundamentals, the series emphasizes consistency, safety, and shared decision-making. According to the AO Spine education faculty, aligning indications and technical steps is key to reducing variability and complications in everyday clinical practice.

Additional sessions throughout 2026 will cover TLIF, ALIF, and C1/C2 fusion, continuing the discussion on how standardized fundamentals translate into better outcomes across diverse practice settings.
