Long-Term Fellowship Program

Support for long-term fellowship programs to advance post-graduate education in orthopedic trauma surgery.

AO Trauma North America (AO Trauma NA) is intensely engaged in education and research through its long-term fellowship designed to provide the best knowledge and skills from each generation of skilled surgeons to the next. AO Trauma NA has established a transparent, non-conflicted, long-term fellowship program supervised and monitored by a Fellowship Committee of surgeons with expertise in the area of postgraduate education. The AO Trauma NA Long-Term Fellowship (LTF) Program Dedicated to Supporting the Best in Fellowship Education, cohesively links the essentials for development of a well-trained orthopedic trauma and/or fracture surgeon with best in education content and methods.

The AO Trauma NA Long-Term Fellowship (LTF) Program provides funding support directly to the trauma fellowship program and is inclusive of all the trauma fellows in the program. The program provides:

  • Expertise from a peer-approved orthopedic trauma program for the development of well-trained orthopedic trauma and/or fracture fellows providing the best education content and teaching methodology
  • Continuous monitoring and revisions to the program site by the AO Trauma NA Fellowship Committee; based on feedback from fellows and program directors
  • Educational opportunities for fellows to network, enhance skills and impart knowledge
  • Valuable AO Foundation and AO Trauma NA resources including:

Administration

The administration of this grant will be through AO North America. The AO Trauma NA Fellowship Committee allocates funding for the long-term fellowship program to advance post-graduate education in orthopedic trauma surgery.

The AO Trauma NA Fellowship Committee is responsible for:

  • Establishing criteria for the distribution of available funds
  • Selecting grant recipients from among qualified institutions according to the criteria established by the Board
  • Making decisions regarding the awarding of funds for educational programs that facilitate the development of expertise in fracture management principles and techniques
  • Overseeing solicitation and review of applications, conducting an unbiased selection process, providing documentation to institutional recipients, and ensuring all funding support provided by industry donors is properly disbursed and all institutions receiving funds account for the use of all grant funds

Funding may not be used for indirect costs.
