Wayne Sotile

Founder, Sotile Center for Resilience and the Center for Physician Resilience

Clinical psychologist Wayne M. Sotile is one of the most sought-after healthcare speakers today. He is the founder of the Sotile Center for Resilience and the Center for Physician Resilience in Davidson, North Carolina. As an international thought leader on physician behavior and resilience for high performers, he consults widely with medical group practices, healthcare systems, and corporations interested in learning evidence-based strategies for deepening resilience, collaboration, and collegiality and promoting team engagement while coping with change. He has written or co-written nine books, including the highly acclaimed Thriving in Healthcare (2019) and The Thriving Physician (2018). Wayne has published widely in the peer-reviewed medical literature, and his insights into sustaining resilience for busy healthcare professionals is featured frequently in the national print and television media, including appearances on “Good Morning America,” “Dateline,” and the “CBS Morning Show.”

After serving on the faculty of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Wayne was in clinical practice for 30 years. He and his team have counseled over 40,000 high-powered professionals, including more than 10,000 physicians and medical families and more than 20,000 healthcare professionals working in various disciplines. In addition to his speaking and consulting work, Wayne serves as a special consultant in physician leadership development for Atrium Health and as a clinical assistant professor at the Tulane University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics. He has delivered keynote addresses to regional hospital leadership forums and hospital associations throughout the country and to medical professionals from 65 countries.

 

Michael Tutty, PhD, MHA, FACMPE

Group Vice President,  American Medical Association (AMA)

Michael Tutty, PhD, MHA, FACMPE, is the Group Vice President leading the strategic focus area of Professional Satisfaction and Practice Sustainability at the American Medical Association (AMA). Michael manages AMA’s efforts to identify, support, and grow the care delivery and payment models that promote long-term sustainability and satisfaction with medical practice. Before joining the AMA, Michael had several roles at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS), most recently serving as the Director of the Office of Health Policy and Technology. Previously, Michael worked at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in their healthcare practice. Michael maintains an assistant professor faculty appointment in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at UMMS. Michael is an advisory board member at MATTER and a board member at Northwest Community Healthcare. He is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE). Michael earned his BA in Government from Western New England College, MHA from Clark University, and PhD in Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Martha Kenney, MD

Assistant Professor, Duke University

Dr. Martha Kenney is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric anesthesiologist who completed medical school, residency, and fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University. She is also an Assistant Professor at Duke University and a physician scientist whose research is focused on understanding mechanisms of chronic pain amongst adolescents and young adults with sickle cell disease and pain disparities in marginalized communities. Her research is supported by a K award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. She holds several national positions, including Guest Editor & Editorial Board member for The Journal of Pain, member of the US Association for the Study of Pain’s (USASP) Professional Development and Education Committee, and co-chair of the USASP Diversity Inclusion and Anti-Racism Small Interest Group. 
 
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Kenney is a trained professional coach with a deep-seated passion for employee engagement, burnout prevention, and career development amongst professional women, particularly early career women. She has spoken at multiple academic and community organizations nationally on these topic areas and has facilitated workshops on work-life integration and time management. Dr. Kenney also hosts a biweekly podcast show on career development for professional women. 

John J. Whyte, MD, MPH

Physician/Executive/Strategist and Policy Expert

Dr. John Whyte is a physician and corporate executive with a unique combination of government and private sector work that provides him with an exceptional perspective on wellness, clinical trials, information technology, innovation, and health care services.
He is currently the Chief Medical Officer, WebMD. In this role, Dr. Whyte leads efforts to develop and expand strategic partnerships that create meaningful change around important and timely public health issues. He has been a leading voice in addressing the COVID pandemic, being named as one of the top 20 health influencers. Dr. Whyte is also a major contributor to iterating digital platforms from simply providing content, and instead playing a pivotal role in connecting to care. He frequently speaks on evaluating digital tools and technologies, assessing their roles in the evolving health ecosystem.
Prior to WebMD, Dr. Whyte served as the Director of Professional Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement at the Center for Drugs Evaluation and Research at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In this role, Dr. Whyte spearheaded numerous efforts to address diversity in drug development programs especially as it relates to necessary changes in clinical trial design. This includes strategies around patient recruitment and acquisition, as well as the use of adaptive clinical trial design and master protocols. Dr. Whyte also helped provide regulatory insight into the potential uses of real-world evidence in regulatory decisions, especially around patient-focused drug development. Dr. Whyte led a research agenda around drug safety issues, including prescription and over-the-counter products.
Prior to this, Dr. Whyte worked for nearly a decade as the Chief Medical Expert and Vice President, Health and Medical Education at Discovery Channel, the leading non-fiction television network. Dr. Whyte developed, designed and delivered educational programming that appealed to both a medical and lay audience. He provided strategic direction, aligning medical and public health interests, viewer demands and corporate funding opportunities. This required the use of targeted multimedia marketing and building brand identity for new products.
Dr. Whyte also served in numerous leadership roles at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. While there, he formalized the process by which the Medicare program determines coverage decisions, including the criteria meant by “medically necessary and reasonable.” He helped determine, evaluate and implement the national Medicare coverage policies on medical items, non-implantable medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory tests. He also oversaw an ongoing analysis of innovative treatment patterns and activities that improve health care outcomes. He is a recognized expert on various payment policies and models.
Dr. Whyte is a board-certified internist and continues to see patients. He completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center as well as earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy and Management at Harvard University School of Public Health. Prior to arriving in Washington, Dr. Whyte was a health services research fellow at Stanford and attending physician in the Department of Medicine. He has written extensively in the medical and lay press, including three best-selling books.

 

Shiv Gaglani, MBA

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Osmosis.org (acquired by Elsevier)

Shiv Gaglani is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Osmosis.org (acquired by Elsevier), a leading health education platform with an audience of millions of current & future clinicians as well as their patients and family members. Shiv’s primary passion is developing innovative and scalable solutions in the fields of healthcare and education. To this end he curated the Smartphone Physical, which debuted at TEDMED, and the Patient Promise, a movement to improve clinician-patient relationship through partnership in pursuing healthy lifestyle behaviors. Shiv is also an avid writer who has written two educational books, Success with Science and Standing out on the SAT & ACT. He is a regular contributor to Forbes, which named him to their 30 Under 30 List in 2018. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2010 with degrees in engineering and health policy, Shiv began his MD degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (from which he is currently on leave) and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2016.
