AO VET seeks candidates for the Chairperson position of the AO VET Regional Board in Europe and Southern Africa

For the position of AO VET Regional Board Chairperson in Europe and Southern Africa, AO VET seeks a highly motivated individual of regional repute and excellent scientific and clinical recognition. The successful applicant will be Chairperson of the AO VET Regional Board and coordinate activities of that body. The applicant needs to be able to work in a multi-cultural environment with no regional travel restrictions and is expected to have the vision to contribute to the entire AO VET organization and to help us set new standards and position AO VET as a global leader in musculoskeletal veterinary surgery.

Position and terms:
Chairperson, AO VET Regional Board (ESA) for a 3-year term (July 1, 2025–June 30 2028) – renewable one term based on election.
Eligibility Criteria
- AO VET member
- Current and past members of respective Regional Board, and
- Past IB members from respective region, whereas 'past' members of the mentioned body mean having served no longer than 7 years ago.
- Exceptional candidates with a demonstrated exceptional commitment to AO VET activities
- Past Regional Chairperson of the respective region are excluded from applying.
General mandatory requirements
- Veterinary surgeon in active clinical practice
- Active AO VET member of a minimum of 12 months current and continuous duration
- Possess broad knowledge and experience regarding issues within the AO Foundation and AO VET
- International reputation as a veterinary clinician, scientist and/or administrator reflected in peer-reviewed publications, invited presentations, professional society officers, academic rank, government or industrial posts and/or similar accolades
- Demonstrate active contribution to the AO VET community
- Active AO VET faculty who has been involved in at least one teaching event as Faculty or Course Chair in the last three years
- Have completed the AO Faculty Education Program (FEP) training
- Have completed or be signed up for the AO Course Chair Education Program (CEP) training
- Good/clear communicator, good listener with the ability to work in multi-cultural environments
- Good command of the English language - equivalent to / greater than a proficiency level of 3 (General Professional Proficiency) as described in the Interagency Language Roundtable Language Skill Level Descriptions; see details under: https://www.govtilr.org/Skills/ILRscale2.htm)
- Diplomacy and conflict resolution skills
- Team player who can work together to achieve goals
- Be highly motivated to develop and manage interpersonal connections across professional specialties
- Cannot hold other governance position in AO VET or AO bodies (except task forces and International Board). In case of an election and the candidate wants to accept the position, he/she will be required to resign the other position before taking up the position.
- Willing and prepared to travel globally (no exclusions)
- Prepared to spend the equivalent of an average of approximately 2 days per month on AO VET affairs and attend virtual and physical meetings as required. These meetings include approximately:
- International Board meetings (approx. 2 physical meetings per year plus virtual meetings as needed)
- Regional Board meetings (approx. 2 physical meeting per year) and attend regular virtual meetings (approx. 2 hr/month)
- AO Foundation Trustees meeting (3-4 days per year)
General desired requirements
- International experience (e.g. fellowship, faculty or research)
- Highly motivated to build and manage educational programs in the region (including curricula, courses, seminars, symposia, and webinars)
- Recognized member or officer on key national, regional, or international veterinary associations
- Prior experience in veterinary practice management and/or other business operations (e.g. industry consultant, MBA, practice owner/operator)
Responsibilities
The AO VET Regional Board Chair will have to:
- Protect the interests of AO VET
- Act in compliance with the bylaws and regulations of the AO Foundation
- Comply with the AO Code of Ethics and Shared Values
- Be accountable to the AO VET International Board and clearly articulate the direction set by AO VET International Board to the AO VET Regional Board.
- Present and be accountable for the full spectrum of Regional Board activities (marketing, communications, membership, philanthropy, sponsorship) to the AO VET International Board
- Define priorities and focus areas of the AO VET Regional Board based on the AO VET's International Board strategy and based on feedback from the regional community and current trends in the field of veterinary orthopedic surgery
- Strive to achieve the objectives of the AO VET Regional Board
- Closely collaborate with the members of the International and Regional Boards and the AO VET management staff towards the fulfillment of the goals, objectives, and tasks of AO VET Regional Board
- Call for AO VET Regional Board meetings as required to conduct Board business efficiently and effectively. Liaise with regional AO staff to confirm all agendas and associated documentation and chair meetings in accordance with AO practices.
- Sign and issue the minutes of the AO VET Regional Board
- Support the implementation of AO VET Regional Board resolutions and actions
- Establish effective collaboration with other AO VET Regions, Commissions, AO Clinical divisions, AO bodies, and approved industrial partners
- Promote AO VET Education offerings
