Mauro Alini

The AO Foundation would like to congratulate Mauro Alini, Vice-Director of the AO Research Institute, Davos (AO Research Institute Davos) on receiving the Marshall R. Urist, MD Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of research. This is the highest award made by the Orthopedic Research Society (ORS) and recognizes an outstanding career in research at the AO. Mauro Alini has run the Musculoskeletal Regeneration Program at AO Research Institute Davos since 2000 focusing on cartilage, bone, and invertebral-disc tissue engineering. Past-President Jaime Quintero said that this award demonstrated "that respect for and recognition of the reputation of AO in the research field is high".

The Marshall R. Urist, MD Award was created in 1996 and is sponsored by the Journal of Orthopaedic Research (JOR). This prestigious award honors an investigator who has established him/herself as a cutting-edge researcher in tissue regeneration research and has done so with a sustained ongoing body of focused research in the area of tissue regeneration as it relates to the musculoskeletal system.

This award is one of highest Achievement awards of the ORS and is the ultimate recognition of the body of scientific work performed by Prof. Alini. Over his career so far he has published almost 150 papers covering cutting edge research into bone, cartilage and intervertebral disc. The recipient of numerous national and international grants, Mauro has also served on the boards of many societies. His mentoring of younger scientists and medics is an area that also gives him great pleasure and success. A member of the board of a number of scientific journals, he is also a long standing scientific editor of eCM Journal.

We are delighted his achievements have been recognised, and are honoured to have him as a member of the AO Foundation.
