Center description

Clínica Alemana de Santiago is the leading private clinic in Chile in many aspects, including patients' satisfaction and clinical research. Clínica Alemana is a multispecialty hospital with the highest technology and is recognized as a top leader medical center in Latin America.

Our Spine Unit is formed by nine fellowship-trained ortho-spine surgeons, most of them with post-fellowship training in renowned international Spine Centers. Our members perform an average of 250 spine injections and over 200 spine surgeries every year. Our Unit also develops spine-related clinical research, which has translated into several abstracts and papers, presented and published in both Chilean and international specialty meetings and journals.

Objectives

Clinica Alemana’s Spine Surgery Unit is part of one of the largest Traumatology and Orthopedics departments in Chile, with over 60 subspecialty-trained orthopedic surgeons. Our weekly activities include 3 OR days and 2 clinic days, together with our 2-hour meeting on Tuesdays, where complex cases are analyzed together with our multidisciplinary team, fellows and residents present updated reviews on several spine topics and recent papers are discussed. Once a month our research meeting takes place, in which our fellows and residents present advances on our different research projects. Regarding emergency spine cases, we are able to offer a ""24/7” on-call service, with on- demand imaging, a fully equipped OR, a wide range of in-house implants and an O-Arm system for spinal navigation.

Methodology

1. Clinical practice
Practical in external consulting, hospitality and surgery. Adding to activities in the Clinica Alemana de Santiago, our fellow and resident participate in surgery in spine trauma in Hospital Mutual de Seguridad (worker Hospital) with Dr Manuel Valencia and Dr Felipe Novoa when there are surgery cases. And participating with Dr Yurac and other members of activities in Universidad del Desarrollo and others university, Spine committee and research.

Fellows are encouraged in research development in different studies or projects during their fellowship period.
