Working in Switzerland

Working in Switzerland

Switzerland is a popular destination for international job seekers. The AO Foundation offers jobs for team-oriented professionals who are looking to further their career in Switzerland.

The AO Foundation is a not-for-profit organization headquarterd in Switzerland, with regional offices in the US, Latin America and Hong Kong, and complimented by an international network of surgeons. We offer motivated people the opportunity to work at any of our four locations.

Switzerland as a place to work

Working in Switzerland is especially attractive for job seekers. Apart from its beautiful landscape, Switzerland has one of the highest standards of living in the world, political stability and a very low unemployment rate. Direct democracy and social security are a matter of course, consequently, it is no wonder that the proportion of well educated people in the population is exceptionally high.

The salaries offered by the AO reflect the normal market rates in Switzerland and, despite the high cost of living, the standard of living is well above the international average. The medical sector with its good long-term prospects has traditionally been one of the most important pillars of the Swiss economy–and this is where the AO is at home.

Entry conditions

Switzerland has the greatest foreign population density in the whole of Europe; every fourth inhabitant in Switzerland originates from another country.

Anyone wishing to work in the German part of Switzerland should speak or learn German (one of the four official languages) and be able to communicate in English as the language of business.

European citizens generally have no difficulty obtaining work and/or residence permits. The conditions for a residence permit to be granted are:

  • Identity card or passport
  • Tenancy Agreement
  • Employment contract, for example, with the AO Foundation.

More detailed information can be obtained from the Federal Office for Migration.
