News This short film gives a brief overview to the AO Foundation Davos Courses 2011 opening ceremony.  AO Clinical Investigation and Documentation arranged this interesting side event during the AO Foundation Davos Courses. AO Research Institute Davos hosts 40 students in January 2012  The "AO Winter Games" ski race stirred up great excitement as seasoned skiers and beginners alike geared up for the event held on the opening day of week 2 of the Davos Courses 2011.  The AO Foundation Davos Courses 2011 were officially opened by AO President Norbert Haas at the Davos Congress Centre on the evening of 03 December.  AO Dialogue Issue 2 2011 was launched to coincide with the opening of the AO Foundation Davos Courses 2011 on December 3.  It is with great sadness that we inform you that AO Foundation Honorary Trustee, Emanuel Trojan from Vienna, Austria passed away on November 26 in his hometown at the age of 93.  50 surgeons from 14 countries exchanged their clinical experiences at the event in in Mainz, Germany. This symposium was dedicated to bringing together scientists and clinicians from multi-disciplinary environments.  Robert K. Schenk is remembered for his superb lectures in the 1960's, with fellow AO scientist Herbert Fleisch, on Structure and Physiology of Bone.  These annual meetings are dedicated to bringing together research partners and clinicians involved in the Collaborative Research Programs.  Biomedical Services Program, Musculoskeletal Infection Group and the Musculoskeletal Regeneration Program report on latest developments.  An exciting scientific program with science, research, education and technology updates gave the Trustees an insight into the work going on across the AO network and beyond throughout the year.  AOSpine has received generous donations from the Hansjörg Wyss Foundation to fund 18 research projects since 2009.  TK Innovations Magazine and AO Dialogue released to coincide with the Trustees Meeting 2011 in Berlin.  The two AO service units are part of a successful bid for a major European Union grant.  Scoliosis Research Society and AOSpine met in Copenhagen to kick-off the 'Scoli-RISK-1' project on July 14, 2011. The meeting was an important step for both collaborators in this area of spine surgery.  The Wilderness Society awards Hansjörg Wyss and The Wyss Foundation the top honor for their conservation work in the US.  The eCM XII Implant Infection conference was held at the Congress Center in Davos, Switzerland, from June 22–24, 2011.  Transforming traditional fracture treatment with modern methods is changing lives in poor countries.  Two partner clinics in the USA are the first centers worldwide to receive the AO's new seal of approval for clinical research.  AOTrauma's orthogeriatrics program was featured at the Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance for Medical Education (GAME) held in Munich on June 6th and 7th.  AOSpine and AOTrauma represented the AO Foundation at this event attended by 8,000 participants.

 Cléber Paccola, AO Foundation Senior Trustee, former AcC and TK System member, passed away.  The contribution of the AO Research Institute Davos to the field of biomaterials has again been recognized by The European Society for Biomaterials.  AOSpine and AOTrauma will represent the AO Foundation at the 12th EFORT Congress in Copenhagen from June 1 to 4, 2011. Both Specialties will have booths at the Congress and AOSpine will also hold a Symposium there.
